A bit of this, a bit of that

Why keep a permanent web site, when most everyone now has an online presence?

Tradition, mostly. I’ve owned this domain name for ages and can’t bear to let it expire though my visit here has been less and less frequent. At the same time, I think I can still benefit from having a semi-permanent virtual home in cyberspace.

For example, this site is where I can be more than just a 140-character version of myself. This is where I can present a part of myself that is unfettered by the seemingly narcisstic, over-sharing character typical of social media, as dominated by Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and the like. Of course, I’m still keenly interested in social media both personally and professionally and will keep a presence there, as I’ve always had.

But here is where I can be my more expressive self; secure in the knowledge that those who visit are not just curious bystanders, but really interested in what I do and what I have to say.
